Oesophagus

After going through mouth, the food moves down the oesophagus to the stomach. There is a flap so that the food does not go down to the lungs, the direction that air goes. The food is pushed down the oesophagus by 2 layers of muscles surrounding the oesophagus. These layers expand and contract, resulting in a wave like motion down the oesophagus, pushing the food down to the stomach.
